Annona muricata peel is used in traditional medicine to treat diabetes and its complications. The purpose of this study was evaluation of α -amylase inhibitory action of Annona muricata peel ethanolic extract. A major strategy in decreasing postprandial hyperglycaemia in diabetes involves the inhibition of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes-α-amylase. Thus, this study evaluated the in-vitro inhibitory potentials of peel of Annona muricata....
Annona muricata fruits are traditionally used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Now a days everted rat gut sac technique was used to investigate the D-glucose uptake activity. In current study, modified everted gut sac technique was performed with chick ileum instead of rat ileum. In this study the effect of ethanolic extract of Annona muricata peel on glucose uptake by everted guts was studied. The guts were mounted in a gut sac bath and different concentrations of glucose were added into mucosal fluid. Just before starting the experiment, the ethanolic extract of Annona muricata peel was also added in the same compartment. After one hour of incubation, the glucose concentration in mucosal fluid and serosal fluid was measured by using glucometer....
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects a wide range of people throughout the world. Epilepsy is a syndrome of brain dysfunction is characterized by recurrent and unpredictable spontaneous seizures. Many synthetic drugs are available for epilepsy treatment but to have control over the epilepsy is very difficult because of their side effects and large number of drug interaction. Therefore herbals drugs are useful due to their applicability and less side effects in the treatment of epilepsy. Butea monosperma is a small to medium size tree used in ayurveda, homeopathic and unani medicine for various purposes. The aim of study was to evaluate the antiepileptic activity of butanolic extract of leaves of Butea monosperma against pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced convulsions in mice. In this study Group I serves as (Convulsive control) received pentylenetetrazole (65 mg/kg i.p.) Group II received pentylenetetrazole (65mg/kg i.p.) and Diazepam (4mg/kg i.p.) Group III and Group IV received Butea monosperma (100mg/kg p.o.) and (200mg/kg p.o.) respectively. The results of the study show that butanolic extract of the leaves of Butea monosperma possesses anticonvulsant activity in mice. Butanolic extract of the leaves of Butea monosperma reduced duration of onset convulsion induced by pentylenetetrazole. The result were expresses as mean ±SEM and were statistically analyzed by one way ANOVA. This study concluded that butanolic extract of the leaves of Butea monosperma showed anticonvusant activity against pentylenetetrazole induced convulsions in mice and reduced mortality....
